Stone Boys is a project that explores the intersections of urban culture, spirituality, and youth identity in the Caribbean. Shot in Guadeloupe over the last two years, the project follow "djobeurs", young men trying to make pocket money by repainting the black and white tilled graves that populate the margins of Caribbean landscape during the two weeks before Toussaint (All Saints Day). In a Caribbean space historically shaped by exotic stereotypes-idyllic landscapes, pristine beaches, lush palm trees-Stone Boys seeks another narrative. Through an approach that merges documentary with a poetic, almost ritualistic lens, Stone Boys is an exploration of crossing and of how youths navigate liminal spaces that evoke both the history of the Middle Passage and the continuous drive for freedom and reimagined futures. By constructing a poetics of the Black Caribbean body that engages in dialogue with the complexity of the postcolonial landscape, it seeks to offer alternative representations of Caribbeanness and tender portraits of Black masculinity.

Stone Boys est un projet qui explore les points de rencontre entre la culture urbaine, la spiritualité et l’identité des jeunes dans les Caraïbes. Réalisé en Guadeloupe au cours des deux dernières années, le projet suit un petit groupe de « djobeurs », ces jeunes hommes qui tentent de se faire un peu d’argent de poche en repeignant les tombes en dalles noires et blanches qui parsèment les marges du paysage caribéen pendant les deux semaines précédant la Toussaint. À travers une approche qui mêle le documentaire à un regard poétique, presque rituel, Stone Boys explore le croisement et la manière dont les jeunes naviguent dans des espaces liminaires qui évoquent à la fois l’histoire de la traversée du milieu et la quête incessante de liberté et d’avenirs réinventés. En construisant une poétique du corps noir caribéen qui dialogue avec la complexité du paysage postcolonial, le projet cherche à offrir des représentations alternatives de la caribéité et des portraits tendres de la masculinité noire.
